Hello Dad,
How is business and everything at home? I don't think it could be any worse than what I've seen throughout the middle west and east. In fact, one begins to appreciate what he has at home when he sees conditions as they are out this way. Although some of the economics and living conditions here just naturally exist in places of their sort.
We arrived in the big City of New York this morning, and what a place it is. I have never seen so many people in my life. It is too much for me. In my way of thinking, people waste half their lives in a town like this. There is something about its vastness and complications that makes it educational in a sense but outside of that, give me the small town.
So far, I and Johnny Riggs from Mesa, have looked the place over pretty good. It isn't hard to get around here when you get on to it. I haven't attempted to look up Leo Romney yet but will try to do so tomorrow. We don't sail until nine o'clock tomorrow evening.
Our trip thus far from Salt Lake City has been quite interesting. It seems as though the church has taken quite an interest in us in that they had arranged sight seeing trips and other accommodations for our disposal, at all the big stops. We are stopping here at the McAlpin Hotel which is right in the middle of town. In fact it is just opposite the Empire State building, the tallest building in the world (102 stories). The church got the rates cut in less than half, so we are fortunate in being where we are.
Yesterday we spent most of the day at Niagara Falls which is quite a sight. At night, we crossed the river and went over into Canada where we could see it illuminated up more effectively. Thus making it hard to even describe in any sense. On our way back to Buffalo, we missed our street car, making us 16 minutes late for our train. Having phoned in to them, they waited for us and seemed....[end of letter].
