Those Crandall Kids (A Picture Story - 1951)

Author is mostly likely Jewel.   The story was typed onto the backside of each photo.

"One fine day in April, 1951, those Crandall kids lined up to take turns riding their tractor and trailer.  Tommy, being the baby, acts like a baby, and raises objections.  This causes a little feudin' and....."




"...while Mama tries to arbitrate, Rick says the darned thing won't go anyway because the back wheel is flat, or somethin!  Tom thinks this is a fine state of affairs, and doesn't mind saying so in a loud blat.  However, nobody is listening, so...."




"...he thinks he ought to get out and tinker with the motor, while Drucie, the opportunist, covers his absence at the seat of the trouble.  Russ declares the only way to find out the difficulty in the rear end is to give it a trial run.  Rick is still worried about that wheel."






"Whoops!  That sorta leaves things up in the air, so while Russ runs to explain this terrible tragedy to Mama...."






"Rick assumes his rightful place (as head mechanic) and Lella'Beth comforts Tom with the prospect of a ride in the rumble seat.  Drucie feels it her duty as a woman to give the driver a few pointers, but...."




"Tom's patience is wearing thin, and since everybody is out of reach, he shows his annoyance at the delay by giving the trailer a bite it will never forget.  Now, at last...."
