Flensburg, Südermarkt 4  IV

Dear Mother and Dad,

Just finished pressing my pants,  so will start a letter to you before our evening "Malzelt". or in other words, our usual supper of bread, cheese, wurst and milk.  Once in awhile, we blow ourselves to a salad of some sort but not very often.  That's a rich mans delicacy.

I received mothers letter this morning relating the pageant.  From all the reports it must have been quite an affair.  If it brings about or creates any influence at all, Gila Valley is liable to go "Mormon". What??? Mother seems to have held her post in the show. What did you do dad?? Probably stayed at home and held the fort down as is usually the unavoidable case. Nicht? Here's hoping that won't have to be the case much longer. At the rate time is passing over here I figure life will only be half as long as it used to be.  So I guess we had better make hay while the sun shines. Ha!! Here it is Spring already.  Ho hum!!  It makes a missionary want to go out in the park and tract instead of up the stairways.  I have really seen more sunshine in the past week than I have the whole time I've been in Flensburg.

What is all this about printing a lot of new money at home??  From all reports and appearances things are looking on the down over there.  This not being able to cash American dollars and the rumor of a probable inflation in America has all the missionaries worried.  American money has already dropped seven pfenigs on the dollar.  That isn't much but it could become worse, could it not??  The missionaries who received their money in Green Backs haven't been able to cash there money for a week, though they did get it cashed today at a seven pfenig drop.  As President Salzner says, the American console might have to ship us home any day. However, this is probably only a little scare to get a little money into circulation.  What?? It is certainly bringing in the paper dollars over here.  My "Mit" went to the bank and had to stand in line all morning before he could get to the window. Everyone had the same view and purpose in mind.  I don't know where these Germans have been getting it but they surely have had a lot of american Green Backs stored away in their socks.  Everyone from the farmer to the cheese maker had money to be cashed.

As you know, probably, already, Hitler is the headman in the Reich Präsidentschaft in Germany now and it has almost changed the land into Hitler.  It looks like he intends to do big things.  He is taking drastic plans against communism and the Communists don't like it at all.  They have little battles in the streets of Berlin and Hamburg every once and awhile-----Shoot with machine guns etc. Although, it isn't as bad as the papers paint it. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of someone taking aim at Hitler.

So Lee Stratton is working in the store. Tell him I said he owes me a letter. Tell everyone hello for me.

Love,
Clarence
