1933-04-12: Many missionaries soon to be released home and not replaced.

Flensburg
Sudermarkt 4--IV
April 12/33

Dear Mother and Dad,

Being as how I'm resting right at the present moment, I might as well be writing a letter.  I have been in Hamburg for the past week-end attending their conference and am now in Kiel where I will remain until ours is over.

My visit in Hamburg was welcomed by the boys, and Saints in Elmshorn and Gluckstadt were all there and it certainly made me happy to know that they had missed me.  They got me in a corner and I had to give them all a picture.

The conference there was wonderful in that it was as large as some that we have in home.  They had from four to five hundred people in every meeting.  There were twenty six missionaries there besides President Salzner and his family and they all brought a wonderful spirit with them.  So you can imagine how good it felt to get together and mingle with the boys.  Our Missionary meeting lasted all day practically, without any intermission for dinner.  Naturally, we were hungry when the meeting came to an end so we all came together and had a big dinner, after which I caught my train back up to Kiel.

Our conference, of the Schleswig Holstein District, takes place this Sunday and we are quite busy trying to get everything in order.  President and his family will probably be here tomorrow.  For the past two weeks I have been so mixed up in programs etc. that I haven't done much in the way of missionary work.  I wanted to see an Opera while I was in Hamburg but they took my time up for me and left me disappointed in that respect.

There have been lots of transfers made lately and from what I hear I am liable to lose my companion.  Two of the boys here in Kiel have been packing all day and getting ready to shove off for Switzerland.  It is going to break up our famous quartet that we had organized for Conference.  But then that is the way things go over here on a mission.  You never know where you are going to be the next week. The boys are being changed around in the mission now because there will be so many released to go home at the end of the month.  I wouldn't be surprised to see myself being moved in the near future.

I guess I have already told you that Germany is raising the devil with the Jews.  A bunch of the Hitlerites went into the large furniture store here in Kiel the other day and took axes and chopped all his furniture up.  (The place was owned by a Jew).

For some reason I can't gather any thoughts together so I'll call this letter to a halt.

Love,
Clarence
