Dearest Mother:
One of my New Years resolutions was to do more letter writing in 1959. It doesn't look like I'm getting off to a very good start.
Yes, I told Jean that I plan to come over to Safford to see you as soon as I can get away. As I forsee it now, it will be about the 1st of February before I can make it. I'm just now putting the finishing touches on an important case I have been investigating for the past two months. Meanwhile the Church has me scheduled for a couple of assignments that I have to take care of.
I really expected you to return to Phoenix for another week when you left with Aunt Flossie. But I learned indirectly later that the trip over here and back home was a bit too much for you. Consequently, I would say that if you plan on doing any traveling in the Phoenix direction, you had better let me know about it so that I can come and do the chauffering. Otherwise, I'll dream about picking you up out of a canyon some where.
I know it must be tough on your emotions and frame of mind to know that you can't do the things you used to do---particularly by ways of traveling, entertaining, etc. But I'm satisfied that if you will slow down now and accept it that way for awhile---maybe a year---you can later slip into high gear again and never know you had to take it easy. That seems to be the way it has worked for some of my friends who have had heart trouble.
The family is all well! What with school, scouts, cub scouts, MIA, Primary and music and teaching, all of which we are wrapped up in, life becomes rather short of time to stop and play. I think I'm going to have to cut down somewhere and take time out to play, though, before we all get lopsided in our ways.
